NBCUniversal Internship Program
Overview
This project was designed for the Entertainment Intern Pitch Project during my internship program at NBCUniversal. We were required to work in teams of 5 to pitch a show concept for a cable TV channel. We were assigned the SYFY channel, and had roughly 8 weeks to come up with a concept. I was in charge of the creative elements for the pitch, which included the Key Art, Logo, and some marketing content.
Visual system
The premise of the show is a reality TV show with science fiction elements. We wanted to introduce reality TV show watchers to the SYFY brand, so we decided to mix the two concepts. As such, I tried to incorporate those elements within our marketing materials and brand.
KEY ART
In order to highlight the reality TV show elements while still keeping the SYFY brand in the main focus, I combined an astronaut suit with a very standard reality TV show group picture. I added visual effects like gradients and a galaxy overlay to further hone in the message.
LOGO
Taking inspiration from popular reality TV shows, key words that popped up during our brainstorm was "bubbly" and "retro". As such, I chose a colorway that was inspired by an 80s vibe, but used a gradient to make it more modern. I also chose a very round and retro font. When designing this, I was focused on highlighting the meaning of the words, and I accomplished that by making "one" look visually different than "odd" and "out".
CREATIVE STRATEGY
Something that I learned how to do throughout my internship at NBCUniversal was how to create a proper creative strategy. As such, I put together a very targeted strategy for our pitch, and tried to emulate these elements within the creative assets I designed.
PEACOCK
One of the main focuses of NBCUniversal is their titles on Peacock. To further the creative assets, I designed a Peacock sized key art, that highlights just the main assets of the overall brand—the key image and the logo. As the main goal is to be eye catching from a small size, I had to experiment with the logo placement and coloring, while still following the brand I established in the primary key art pieces.
FInal Deliverable
At the conclusion of this project, we were required to present to the rest of the interns in a mock pitch competition. Although we didn't end up winning, I had a lot of fun working with people across different backgrounds and experiences!
