Overview
Found in local parks, “Tag, you’re it!” is a sign series that helps neighbors share and discover the vibrant stories that make up their community. Unique tags highlight the varying experiences and shared emotions that one place can hold. This project was created for Exhibition Design class and was centered around creating signs. I was in charge of a lot of the physical construction, some copywriting, and helped with photography, along with a lot of brainstorming and ideation.
HOW IT WORKS
We wanted to create a sign that users could interact with and would create a sense of community. We came up with this idea of using "emotion tags" that people can write stories on, in order to share stories and connect with each other within their communities.
WRITE
The back of each tag is very simple. We left a lot of space to encourage users to write their story in the space so that others can connect with it. The bottom of the tag says "Your neighbor, _____" inviting users to write their name in space as a final send off.
TIE
We then ask the user to tie the tag in the place where that memory or story took place. A picnic table where someone felt loved would have a tag, a tree where you felt supported would have a tag, so on and so forth.
DISCOVER
One of the main things we wanted to highlight when talking about this project was the way many tags can exist in the same space. We wanted to highlight that a singular place can have many different stories and emotions attached to it.
READ
We hoped that users would be encouraged to flip the tags over (or just come across them) when they are either hanging up their own signs or just having a nice day in a park. We hope that this will encourage connection between people, and create a sense that everyone has a different story, even if we're all in the same place.
